How Long was Nissan Aware of This Issue?
In recall documents, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that Nissan knew of a similar issue as far back as February 2013. Nissan allegedly knew of instances where the passenger-side airbag did not deploy.
Although the issue was corrected at the time, consumers were still submitting complaints and warranty claims, even in vehicles that had been fixed.
The NHTSA opened up an investigation into the recall in April. Since the recall was announced, the NHTSA received more than 100 more complaints by consumers who alleged problems with the sensors after recall repairs. Some complaints noted that auto dealers had to make multiple repairs.
