Peggy Lane, 53, of Boynton Beach is in critical condition after being struck by a pickup truck on Thursday evening.
According to authorities, Nathaniel Ellis was driving his GMC pickup truck northbound in the 800 block of North Seacrest Boulevard just before 7 p.m. Ellis says that Lane walked out in front of his truck.
The victim was taken by trauma alert to Delray Medical Center and remains in critical condition. Anyone with information pertaining to this auto accident is urged to call local investigators at 561-732-8116.
The accident is one of many pedestrian accidents reported in South Florida over the past few months. Throughout Palm Beach and Broward counties, several fatal and non-fatal pedestrian accidents have been reported over the past month; some were hit-and-run collisions.
In Broward County, the number of pedestrian accidents nearly doubled between 2011 and 2012 while in Palm Beach County, pedestrian accidents increased by 15 percent between those years. Although final numbers are still being calculated for 2013, it seems as though the number of pedestrian crashes in Palm Beach County will once again be higher than the previous year.
Have you or someone you love been injured in a pedestrian crash caused by a careless driver? Did you know that victims of such accidents may be entitled to file a claim for medical expenses, lost wages and more?
