The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) recently announced that they will be cracking down on motorists driving too slowly in the left lane for an undetermined amount of time.
According to PBSO, the reason the department is cracking down on these drivers is because they are causing car accidents and near misses as other drivers attempt to get around them. The left lane should only be used for passing and drivers should move over to the next lane once they have done so.
Many drivers are slowing down because they are fearful of drivers on their cellphones or who are otherwise distracted. However, these slower drivers should move to the furthest right lane rather than impede faster moving traffic in the left lane.
The department also intends to be on the lookout for distracted drivers who are also a common cause of motor vehicle accidents. Furthermore, the sheriffs office took the time to remind pedestrians that they should always walk in the crosswalk, too often pedestrians are involved in accidents when they cross in the middle of the road.
