On Friday evening, a couple was traveling in the inside lane down South U.S. 441 on a motorcycle when they were struck from behind by a 2012 Ford F150. John Oliveri, the 71 year old driver of the motorcycle was driving a 2005 Harley Davidson.
Oliveri was traveling with his girlfriend, Josephine Hall, 66, when the crash occurred late into the night on August 17th. Oliveri, from Summerfield, and Hall, from Belleview, were thrown from the motorcycle following the crash.
Oliveri, who suffered from serious injuries, was taken to Shands at the University of Florida by helicopter to be treated. Hall was taken to The Villages Regional Medical Center by ambulance where she was pronounced dead.
Neither Oliveri nor Hall was wearing helmets at the time for the Palm Beach County motorcycle accident . The driver of the pickup truck, James Benjamin Rogers, 40, suffered minor injuries from the crash. Rogers was wearing his seatbelt during the accident.
Fridays motorcycle accident marks the 45th traffic fatality in Marion County this year thus far. A level caution for all residents of Marion County must be taken when traveling on the roadways and highways in the area.
