HP Recalls Fax Machines Due to Overheating Risk | Consumer Alerts

HP Recalls Fax Machines

On February 2, 2012, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in cooperation with Hewlett-Packard (HP) issued a voluntary recall of HP 1040 and 1050 fax machines. The fax machines can overheat due to an electrical component failure, causing a fire and burn hazard. There have been reports of the fax machines overheating and catching fire, resulting in property damage.

The recalled fax machines have the HP logo and the model number (1040 or 1050) labeled on the front of the machine. The fax machines were sold throughout the nation in electronic, computer and camera stores. The fax machines were also sold on the HP website. The recalled fax machines were sold from November 2004 to November 2011 and were sold for $90 to $120. Some of the recalled fax machines were replacement units for the previously recalled HP 1010 fax machine in June 2008.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled fax machines and disconnect them from the electrical outlet. HP is giving consumers rebates for the recalled fax machines.
